CASTING BRIEF:

OUR 2024 YOUNG INDUSTRY PROJECT WILL PRESENT “FOUND | HOME”, a brand new live production featuring contemporary hits from your favourite musicals such as DEAR EVAN HANSEN, BEETLEJUICE, MEAN GIRLS, EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE, MATILDA, THE PROM, THE LIGHTNING THIEF and more! A cabaret including your favourite numbers such as “Fearless”, “Home”, “And You Don’t Even Know It” and “Tonight Belongs To You”, “FOUND | HOME” asks us “when our children tell our story”, “is there a way back home?”

AUDITION Statement:

We strongly encourage artists of all races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, neuro-diversities, sexual orientation, body types and gender expressions/identities to audition for this process. Our 2024 Young Industry Project is a show for all and Performing Artists Company is committed to inclusivity and diversity both on and off the stage. Performers will be able to tell us what roles they would like to be seen for at the time of auditioning.

We are seeking passionate, diverse young performers to perform a range of characters & roles throughout our 2024 Young Industry Project. Our Young Industry Project is designed to challenge passionate, curious, kind, brave and dedicated artists who are looking to be extended like never before in their musical theatre training with likeminded artists within our PAC safe space. Artists must be willing to show up to both auditions and our processes with unconditional positive regard for all others in our space, including fellow artists, creative team and and crew. We highly value our company culture and ensuring a safe learning environment is essential and non-negotiable to ensure the wellbeing and continued development of both our artists and team, as artists and humans.

FEATURED ROLES - SINGER/ACTORS - non gender specific.

We are seeking strong singer/actors in all age categories to portray various featured roles throughout numbers in the production including JANIS, DAMIEN, CADY, BARRY, MRS GREENE, PERCY, ANNABETH, GROVER, CLARISSE, CHIRON, SILENA, LUKE, BARBARA, ADAM & more.

FEATURED ROLES - SINGER/ACTOR/DANCERS (AGES 8 - 21) - non gender specific.

We are seeking strong triple threats in all age categories to portray various featured roles throughout numbers in the production including JAMIE, MATILDA, BRUCE, EMMA, SHELBY, KAYLEE, LYDIA & more. Strong acrobatic skills a bonus for some roles however not essential.

JUNIOR DANCE ENSEMBLE (AGES 8 - 12) - non gender specific.
We are casting exceptional dancers aged 8 - 12 to comprise of the project’s dance ensemble to help bring this production to life. Seeking diverse performers with experience in multiple styles of dance including ballet, tap, commercial and broadway jazz. Those with acrobatics/tricks are encouraged to present these at auditions. Some dancers may double as understudies for featured roles.

JUNIOR SINGING/ACTING ENSEMBLE (AGES 8 - 12) - non gender specific
We are casting exceptional junior singer/actors aged 8 - 12 who will help bring this production to life. Seeking singer/actors with excellent stage presence and a strong ability to hold harmonies. Dance/Movement skills are a plus. Some members of our singing/acting ensemble will double as understudies for featured roles.

TEEN & PRE-PROFESSIONAL DANCE ENSEMBLE (AGES 13 - 21) - non gender specific.
We are casting exceptional dancers aged 13 - 21 to comprise of the project’s dance ensemble to help bring this production to life. Seeking diverse performers with experience in multiple styles of dance including ballet, tap, commercial and broadway jazz. Those with acrobatics/tricks are encouraged to present these at auditions. Some dancers may double as understudies for featured roles.

AUDITION INFORMATION:

WHEN: First round auditions will take place on the 12th of MAY (AM & PM) in NAARM/ MELBOURNE.

Please note that you may be asked to film callback material via self tape in the week following auditions (you will be notified via email if required to).

Further information including specific audition time & venue will be emailed 1 week in advance.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

FEATURED ROLE & SINGING ENSEMBLE SUBMISSIONS: Please prepare 16-32 BARS of ONE contemporary musical theatre song in the style of ‘Mean Girls’, ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’, and/or ‘Matilda’, no more than 90 seconds in length. Please prepare sheet music in the correct key in a clearly presented display folder (no backing tracks nor acapella singing will be accepted). Please avoid choosing songs from the shows listed in this casting brief.

DANCE ENSEMBLE SUBMISSIONS: Dancers will be seen in a group dance call first and choreography will be taught on the day. Successful first round applicants may be asked to undertake a group singing callback in person or via self tape.

Further information including your audition time & location, what to bring & what to expect will be emailed 1 week in advance.

INTERSTATE APPLICANTS AND THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO MAKE THE AUDITIONS:

If you live interstate or are unavailable to audition on the 05th May but would like to audition, please send us a video containing the following:

  • An introduction stating your name, age, and something about yourself that will help us to get to know you!

  • Your best verse & chorus from a Musical Theatre song. Please do not sing a song from any of the musicals presented within “FOUND | HOME”.

  • A 1 minute clip of your best dancing! This can be a clip from a dance class or past performance, or one filmed at home. If it is a video of a group performance, please make sure to tell us which dancer is you.

  • Any acrobatic tricks that you can safely execute (where applicable - please note that this is not essential)

  • Please ensure all videos above are compiled into a single video and upload as an unlisted Youtube link. Please send this link, along with your CV & headshot to: yip@performingartistscompany.com to submit your audition.

  • Video auditions are due by 11.59pm on FRIDAY 10th MAY to be eligible for casting consideration. Late applications will not be accepted.

YOUTUBE HELP

After uploading the video to Youtube, go to the Edit button in Video settings then navigate to the Privacy section. Select “Unlisted” and then “Save Changes”. You can now share the link to the video that is unlisted to public searches.

CREATIVE PATHWAYS PROGRAM

For young aspiring creatives

Our 2024 Creative Pathways Program aims to connect young aspiring creatives, stage managers and designers with professionals in their chosen field as they are offered the opportunity to gain work experience one on one with our professional creatives and production team members in each field. Over the duration of our 2024 Young Industry Project, fellows will have the opportunity to shadow and collaborate with a professional head of department in their chosen field to gain hands on experience in their craft. All fellowships are offered on full scholarship, with a mission of encouraging young artists to explore various creative pathways within the highly in demand design and production sector of the industry.

DIRECTING FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding one (1) Directing fellowship this year to an applicant aged 16 - 21 who displays a committed interest in directing. This fellow will work closely with our directing team over the course of the project to build an understanding of what is involved in the direction of a musical from table read to performance.

MUSICAL DIRECTION FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding one (1) Musical Directing fellowship this year to an applicant aged 16 - 21 who displays a committed interest in musical directing. This fellow will work closely with our music, directing and sound team over the course of the project to build an understanding of what is involved in the musical direction of a score from table read to performance.

CHOREOGRAPHY FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding two (2) Choreography fellowships to applicants aged 16 - 21 who display a committed interest in expanding their dance career to work in choreography. These fellows will work closely with our choreography team over the course of the project to build an understanding of what is involved in choreographing a full musical from table read to performance.

PRODUCTION FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding two (2) Production fellowships this year to applicants aged 16 - 21 who display a committed interest in working in Stage Management and/or Production Management. These fellows will work closely with our Stage Manager and Production Manager over the course of the project to build an understanding of what is involved in the production side of presenting a full musical from table read to performance.

COSTUME FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding one (1) Costume fellowship this year to an applicant aged 16 - 21 who displays a committed interest in working in Costume design. This fellow will work closely with our Costume designer over the course of the project to build an understanding of what is involved in costuming a full musical from table read to performance.

SOUND PRODUCTION FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding one (1) Sound Production fellowship this year to an applicant aged 16 - 21 who displays a committed interest in working in Sound Production. This fellow will work closely with our Sound engineer over the course of our tech week to build an understanding of what is involved in running the sound department in a live.

LIGHTING FELLOWSHIP

PAC will be awarding one (1) Lighting fellowship to an applicant aged 16 - 21 who displays a com- mitted interest in working in Lighting production. This fellow will work closely with our Sound engineer over the course of our tech week to build an understanding of what is involved in running the lighting department in a live musical theatre setting, from bump in, light rigging, desk operation to bump out.

If you are applying for our Direction, Musical Direction and/or Choreography fellowship, please include in your video submission examples of your performing and/or creative work. We’d also love to know why you’re passionate about your chosen area and your vision for the future, both for yourself and for your chosen avenue! Applicants may be asked to attend a zoom interview prior to selection. All applicants 18+ will be required to obtain a Working with Children’s Check (volunteer) prior to commencement if selected and places offered are subject to passing this WWCC.
